Professional Development Books 


If you would like to use your PD money to purchase books to support your professional development, please send an email to 
bilyanatokusheva@gpcsd.ca . Subject : Books for PD. 
Please note that Local 42 is trusting your professional judgement  and we hope and trust that you will use this PD money appropriately.  


Policy : 
- Books must be aligned with your professional development focus.
- Books must be directly related to teaching, education, etc. 
- A list of books must be sent for approval before purchase. You can submit an Amazon wish list, Scholastic list, any other way of purchasing books. 
- Books may NOT be purchased to use in your classroom library. Ex. books for your students; etc.
- Books that are NOT directly related to the teaching profession may not be purchased. 

FAQ 
Can I submit a receipt for a portion of the 500$ ? 
- We ask that when you submit your receipt for reimbursement for the total amount of 500$. For example, you may submit one receipt or multiple receipts that add up to 500$. You will then receive one check for the total 500$. 

Can I purchase books for my classroom to use as read aloud, for students to use, etc? 
-The purpose of this money is to support YOU in your professional development focus. We ask that you purchase books that will support that. Special consideration may be given for books that you can use in support of our professional development. Email bilyanatokusheva@gpcsd.ca for further information and approval before purchase. 

Can I use a portion of the 500$ for books and a portion for another form of PD? 
- Yes. You may combine the different forms of PD, however we ask that you submit all receipt on one form for a total of 500$. Example: Combining a webinar fee of 250$ with purchasing books for 250$.

I am not sure if a book I chose falls under the policy, how can I tell? 
- If the book or books you have chosen directly support you as a teacher and support your professional development then those book would be acceptable under our policy.
For example :
"Mathematical Mindset" by Joe Boaler  - Yes                     " The Outlander series" by Diana G. - NO 
" The Lifelong Kindergarten" - Yes                                    " Cooking for One " - NO 


I teach grade 4 but would like to buy a book that is not specific to my grade. Can I ? 
- Yes. You may purchase a book that is not grade specific. We trust your professional judgement.
